December 2004 Premiere Issue

Southwestern Haijin Spotlight

Elizabeth Searle Lamb

all night the wind
and the black raven dreams
no moon at all

snow geese
the fresh smell of the first
flakes

such cold, such silence
such a morning star, bright
in the east

the old treehouse
ghosts of summer children
playing in moonlight

only a junco's wing—
this small snow-blizzard
from the lilac

just a day from full
this moon wears
a strange smile

dreaming the dream
that is not a dream    moonlight
in the dreamcatcher

the moon comes up
silent as owl's wing
a passing cloud
